Winemaker Jairo Fernández, from Pagos del Rey, recognised as one of the best winemakers in the world by The Drinks Business

Within the framework of the Wine Paris/Vinexpo 2024 fair, the prestigious publication The Drinks Business awarded Jairo Fernández, winemaker of the Pagos del Rey winery in Rioja, the "Masters Winemakers Top 100 2024" award in the category of best value for money wines.

This recognition is a consequence of the Master award received by the Arnegui Tempranillo 2022 wine from Pagos del Rey in the Rioja Masters 2023 competition.

The “Masters Winemakers Top 100″ award is based on blind tastings conducted by a panel of experts from The Drinks Business, led by Patrick Schmitt MW, editor-in-chief of the publication.

The selection of Jairo Fernández as one of the world’s best winemakers highlights his talent, dedication and commitment to making high quality wines at affordable prices.

A recognition of excellence and passion for wine

In the words of Patrick Schmitt: “Jairo Fernández is an exceptional winemaker who has demonstrated his ability to create outstanding wines with excellent value for money. His passion for wine and his dedication to making high quality wines are evident in every bottle of Arnegui Tempranillo”.

Jairo Fernández, for his part, said he was “very proud and grateful” for this recognition. “This award is a great honour for me and for the entire Pagos del Rey team. It is a reflection of the hard work and passion we put into making wines that convey the essence of Rioja and that are accessible to all wine lovers”, he said.

Arnegui: An exceptional wine with an excellent quality-price ratio

Arnegui Tempranillo 2022 received the Master medal, the highest award in the Rioja Masters 2023 competition, given only to wines with a score of over 95 points, exceptional quality, distinctive character and a unique expression of Rioja terroir. This wine is a perfect example of the Pagos del Rey philosophy. According to the jury’s assessment, it is “a fantastic discovery that meets all the requirements to be a young, high quality and good value red wine”.

The recognition of Jairo Fernández’s work by The Drinks Business is an important milestone for Pagos del Rey and for the Rioja region, as it consolidates the winery’s position as a benchmark of quality in the wine sector and highlights the quality and potential of Rioja wines.
